Pray for South Sudan’s Refugees and Famine Risk— 045

Join me today in praying for victims of conflict and those facing famine in South Sudan. My name is Fouad Abou-Rizk and I am passionate about international crisis relief. I write humanitarian prayers to encourage people to pray for those who are suffering most in our world.

I pray that all of those at risk of death from starvation in South Sudan will be saved, especially children. I pray that aid and healthcare workers will equipped and supplied to reach those in rural areas and provide them with lifesaving food and healthcare services.

I pray that all of those who are in poor health due to a lack of food and malnutrition will be cared for and nursed back to good health. I pray for a much better availability of and more effective distribution of food in South Sudan so that the risk of famine for now and the future will be greatly reduced.

I pray that the power-sharing deal intended to end civil war in South Sudan will be effective and that warring factions will put in maximum effort to keep the peace.

I pray that the estimated 2.5 million South Sudanese who are displaced in other countries as refugees will be treated with mercy and compassion. I pray that they will never be seen as a pest. I pray that wherever they go, they will be met by people with resources to help them.

Notes and Explanations

South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in 2011 and has been facing a period of civil war since 2013. Violence has been the primary cause of the almost 2.5 million people who have fled the country in recent years to neighboring Uganda, Sudan, Kenya, Ethiopia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The government and rebel forces have been working on a peaceful end to war for months, and are almost there. They have worked out a power-sharing deal that should be finalized on August 5th.

Over 5 million people, almost half of South Sudan’s population, are facing “crisis” level or worse acute food insecurity. The International Rescue Committee is one organization working to save lives in South Sudan. See how they are making an impact in the video below.
