Join me today in praying for victims of terrorism in Afghanistan and the refugees the country has produced. My name is Fouad Abou-Rizk and I am passionate about international crisis relief. I write Humanitarian Prayers to raise awareness and encourage people to pray for those who are suffering most in our world.
I pray for your mercy for victims of recent terrorist attacks in Kabul, Afghanistan. I pray that the dead will be welcome into heaven for the sake of the suffering they endured at the end of their lives, and I pray that the injured will heal fully and quickly.
I pray that Afghanistan’s government will be able to protect its citizens from terrorism and other violence. I pray for a great reduction in terrorist attacks in the country. I pray that you will put love and peace into the hearts and minds of those who harm others to replace their hatred and violence.
I pray that radical and extremist ideologies that glorify violence and terrorism will be extinguished by truth, love, and peace.
I pray that the 2.5+ million refugees from Afghanistan will be treated with mercy and compassion. I pray that refugees will not be seen as a pest. I pray that wherever Afghan refugees go, they will be met by people with resources to help them.
I pray for increased peace and stability in Afghanistan so that many who have been forced to flee the country will be able to return home.
Notes and Explanations
Violent conflict and terrorist attacks are the biggest threats facing Afghanistan’s population.. From January through June 2018, almost 1700 Afghan civilians have been killed. ISIS and the Taliban account for 60% of those deaths, according to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.
There have been at list six terrorist attacks in the country so far in July, mostly suicide bombers, killing many.
There are almost 2.5 million Afghan refugees registered with the United Nations High Commission on Refugees, with potentially hundreds of thousands more unregistered. Less than 10,000 refugees have returned to Afghanistan in 2018. Refugees who have fled to Europe have faced increasing animosity in recent months and years.
