Pray for Syria, Ebola Outbreak in Democratic Republic of the Congo— 032

Join me today in praying for civilian victims of war in Syria and for those suffering in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, especially Ebola victims. My name is Fouad Abou-Rizk and I am a Catholic who is passionate about international crisis relief. I write Humanitarian Prayers to be an advocate & help people care.

I pray for a peaceful end to war in Syria

I pray that the injured will heal fully and quickly and that those traumatized by war will encounter the peace of Christ.

I pray that the estimated 2 million internally displaced people in northern Syria will be provided with shelter, food, water, and whatever else they need to live a decent life. I pray that they will not become a target of the regime’s offensives.

I pray that worldwide, refugees will be welcomed with mercy and compassion, and never be seen as a pest or a problem. I pray that wherever they go, especially in neighboring countries, they will be met by people with resources to help them.

I pray for a soon end to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, that the citizens will be informed upon and follow methods to reduce transfer of the disease.

I pray that those infected with the disease will receive the care they need to survive and recover. I pray that those who die will be welcomed into Heaven for the sake of the suffering they endured at the end of their life. I pray that those who mourn will be comforted.

I pray for your mercy for victims of violence in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. I pray that the estimated 100,000 people who have fled their homes this year will be provided with a safe place to live with adequate shelter, food, clean water, and healthcare.

I pray that the country’s 13 million people in the DRC who are in need of humanitarian aid will receive the care they need to live decent lives. I pray that food will reach the 2 million children at risk of starvation.

I pray that President Joseph Kabila will be peacefully deposed, that new elections will take place, and that a strong and fair government will rule the DRC that has the power to protect its people from ethnic and other violence.

Notes and Explanations

When I share my prayers I seek to promote compassiona sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it. Read more here.

Syria’s civil war has been present since 2011, but has not been in the mainstream news much lately due to the increased coverage of conflict in other places, especially Gaza. However, it still remains.

There are an estimated 2 million displaced (homeless) people in northern Syria in a region that the regime does not control.

There are millions more Syrians who are refugees in other countries, mostly in neighboring Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan, which generally don’t have the financial resources to care for them.

Ebola is one of the nastiest diseases in the modern world. It can kill within 48 hours and is easily spread through the transmission of bodily fluids, including sweat. There has recently been an outbreak of the disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The DRC is plagued by ethnic violence and a president who has overstayed his term and refuses to step down.
